Learning Activities Development Proposals Learning Activities Development will begin with an introductory Professional Development Meeting on Monday, October 10 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to explain project goals and expectations. A Progress Meeting will be held Monday, October 24 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to update the group, brainstorm, share ideas, and generate feedback. During the weeks of October 10 through November 7, participants may work on Learning Activities Development projects in AAM-Colorado¹s Digital Primary Resource Center (DPRC) in CN 101 on the Auraria Campus or in a location of their choice. Teams will have until Monday, November 7 to complete their Learning Activities Development projects. Dissemination reports for each team will be due November 6, 2006. See the Fall 2005 Learning Activities Development Page for more information. Teams of two to four Colorado educators submitted proposals for Learning Activities Development. AAM-Colorado required that teams of three or four include at least one librarian, media or technology specialist. A stipend of $400 will be paid to each team member upon submission of the team's completed project. A selection of completed Learning Activities Development projects will be made available to the educational community through links on the AAM-Colorado Web site. Sharing the content developed in the Learning Activities Development project is a key element of this professional development opportunity. After a report describing and documenting how the project was shared with the team¹s peers is submitted to AAM-Colorado, each team member will receive an additional $200 stipend. Teams will have until November 6, 2006 to complete their reports. Participants must be Colorado K-12 educators, and at least one participant per team must have completed AAM-Colorado Workshop Series I and II prior to the team's participation in Learning Activities Development. The deadline for submission of Learning Activities Development proposals is Friday, September 30, 2005. Workshop
for Chairs of School of Professional Studies The boardroom was set up with a wireless laptop for all participants, and each department Chair was told, by School of Professional Studies Dean, Dr. Sandra Haynes, to find a primary source that represents their respective department. Taylor Kendal and Chris Jennings were on hand to offer technical support. However, the instruction, materials, and Web site navigation proved to be enough for this skilled group. |

Library
of Congress Teacher in Residence Selected for 2005-2006 Year As a member of the Educational Technology / Information Literacy Planning Committee for Mesa County Valley School District, Sherrie helped coordinate An Adventure of the American Mind - Colorado training in Colorado's Western Slope region in early 2005. The Mt. Garfield Middle School Library, to which Sherrie will return after her year as Teacher in Residence, has been designated a Colorado Power Library for the past four years. Sherrie is also member of numerous local and state organizations that will have to give her up for a year! Sherrie brings to the Library of Congress many years' experience as an educator, mentor, and community leader. She hopes to return with a unique perspective on the Library itself, better understanding of the depth of the Library of Congress collections, and practical ways of using them to share with other educators. Sherrie believes that primary sources such as those in the Library of Congress collections can help students to better identify with historical figures and events. She said, "The (primary sources) are about real people trying things, and kids can better relate to that than to a textbook. It's important to give kids a sense of awe about primary sources and the people behind them." Although Sherrie and her husband have traveled extensively and she has visited D.C. three times, she expected to experience some "culture shock" when they relocated there. They have just moved from their home near Mesa, CO, a town of about 45 people, to one of the nation's largest cities! |
