TPS Mountain/Plains Grant Descriptions
The Teaching with Primary Sources Mountain/Plains Regional Center offers three distinct grants in its program. These grants are the Awareness Grant, the Enhancement Grant and the Impact Grant. Each grant offers its own unique degree of involvement depending on which one is chosen. Below are detailed descriptions of each option. These descriptions include the amount of funding available, who and what is to be involved, and what can be expected.
Awareness Grant
This grant is for organizations seeking to apply for up to $5,000 in funding in order to create awareness about Teaching with Primary Sources in their area or state. Funds are designated to support a coordinated effort between individual organizations (such as schools, universities, colleges, libraries, or historical societies) and the TPS Mountain/Plains Regional Center. This grant is for activities such as integrating TPS into existing courses, providing TPS workshops, or hosting a conference that will bring in participants from several communities. Participants may include in-service and pre-service teachers, librarians, media specialists, educational support personnel and higher education faculty.
Enhancement Grant
This grant is for organizations seeking to apply for up to $10,000 in funding in order to enhance existing programs in their area or state through Teaching with Primary Sources. Funds are designated to support on-going education initiatives between collaborators such as school districts, libraries, professional organizations, and historical societies. This grant is for cooperative ventures such as embedding TPS into current educational initiatives that already draw participants from throughout the area, and using primary sources to create new curriculum based on local history. Participants may include in-service and pre-service teachers, librarians, media specialists, educational support personnel and higher education faculty.
Impact Grant
This grant is for organizations seeking to apply for up to $15,000 in funding in order to use Teaching with Primary Sources to make an impact on professional development throughout their states. Funds are designated to support state-wide efforts between collaborators such as school districts, libraries, professional organizations, and historical societies. This grant is for the development of a collaborative program which incorporates the online resources of the Library of Congress to create a widespread, sustained impact on professional development. Organizations seeking to apply for an Impact Grant must have already shown evidence of collaborative work through the successful implement of an Awareness Grant or Enhancement Grant. Participants may include in-service and pre-service teachers, librarians, media specialists, educational support personnel and higher education faculty. The TPS Mountain/Plains Regional Center is seeking proposals for one Impact Grant per participating state.
