Librarian Day 2005 was a Huge Success!
Special Event Friday, March
4, 2005 was Attended by Almost 100 Colorado Educators
Librarian Day, hosted by Teaching With Primary Sources –
Colorado and the Auraria Library on Friday, March 4th, was a huge

Almost
100 Colorado librarians and teachers participated in presentations
beginning with breakfast in the Tivoli Turnhalle, and opening remarks
by Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Denver Public
Schools Superintendent Jerry Wartgow, Metropolitan
State College of Denver’s Interim President Ray Kieft,
and Chairman of Metro State’s Board of Trustees Bruce
Benson.
Librarian Day continued with morning presentations
by the Denver
Public Library. A special teleconference presentation followed
featuring Dr. Derrick de Kerckhove, holder of the
prestigious Papamarkou Chair in Education and Technology at the
Library of Congress.

After lunch at the Turnhalle, afternoon presenters
included the Collaborative
Digitization Program, Colorado
Historical Society, Auraria
Library, and Penrose
Library at University of Denver. During breaks, participants
enjoyed refreshments and browsed informative poster sessions provided
by the presenting organizations.
A
wrap-up session followed with a drawing for prizes by TPS-Colorado
director Peggy O'Neill-Jones, and a visit to the
TPS-Colorado Open House that was in progress in the Digital Primary
Resource Center in CN 101, where participants registered their schools
to win technology equipment. See the Open

Librarian Day Teleconference with
Library of Congress Expert
Librarian Day featured a morning
teleconference with Dr. Derrick de Kerckhove, director
of the McLuhan
Program in Culture & Technology and professor in the
Department of French at the University of Toronto. Dr. de
Kerckhove currently holds the prestigious Papamarkou Chair
in Education and Technology at the Library
of Congress.
Dr. de Kerckhove spoke about the impact
that the delivery of information via the Web and the extensive
use of Web-based tools, such as the Library of Congress' American
Memory project, have on the development of the information
processing skills of young people.
The teleconference was held in the
Auraria Media Center, Studio A, on the lower level of the
Auraria Library. Dr. de Kerckhove's PowerPoint
