General FAQ

Is there a fee or tuition charge for TPS-Colorado workshops?
TPS-Colorado classes are offered at no charge for educators. There is a fee for participants who choose to earn graduate credit, but it is not a requirement.

How do I register for a course
After deciding on the appropriate course, which can be done by reviewing the Workshop Schedule, you may complete your registration online at: http://tpscolorado.mscd.edu/registration.htm. For directions on completing the online registration process please see the How To Register PDF.

Do I have to take classes with others in my school district?
Colorado educators are eligible to register for any of the options listed on the Workshop Schedule. On Location classes are also available to schools or districts with a minimum of 10 participants. Please see the schedules for times and locations.

How can I earn digital primary source certificates and order digital materials to use in my classroom?
Upon completion of Levels I and II, participants will be awarded a Digital Resource Certificate. A total of $450 in digital primary source certificates can be earned by participants completing both Level I and II..

How do I bookmark and link using the permanent url?
When you search the American Memory collections, many of the Web pages displayed are created "on the fly". That is, they are assembled by the computer in response to your particular request."On the fly" pages create problems for linking and bookmarking since the URL (Uniform Resource Locator or Web address) is temporary. Thus, if you bookmark an "on the fly" page, you will not be able to reach the address later. However, you can get a permanent URL using the process outlined here http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/help/faq.html#link.

How do I view MrSID and JPEG2000 maps off-line?
Some maps are available in the uncommon MrSID and JPEG2000 formats. See a comparison of the two formats here: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/help/view.html#map. For off-line viewing download the free IrfanView software and plugins here: http://www.irfanview.com/.

Who Should Attend TPS-Colorado Workshops
Professional development classes are available for in-service and pre-service teachers, college faculty, librarians, media specialists and other educational support personnel.  The goal of the TPS-Colorado project is to develop a professional development network that reaches out to Colorado educators to support the use of Library of Congress primary source-based instruction in the classroom.

Why You Should Participate in the TPS-Colorado Program

There are numerous reasons to participate in this professional development program. As a TPS-Colorado participant, you will be part of a national network that helps you and your colleagues learn to access and use Library of Congress online materials and other digital primary sources. You can become an influential mentor and help others learn about primary source-based instruction. You can earn possible recertification credit and graduate credit to advance your career.

By participating in the TPS-Colorado Levels I and II classes, you can obtain your Teaching with Primary Sources certificates; earn up to $450 in digital primary source certificates (redeemable only at the TPS-Colorado Digital Primary Source Center); and receive a USB Flash Drive with TPS-Colorado course materials.   Continued participation and completion of the Level III Teaching with Primary Sources Ambassador - Colorado program makes you eligible to apply for the prestigious Teaching with Primary Sources Ambassador - Library of Congress fellowship.
